Mominul keeps his word as he reaches three figures
Mominul picked up his ninth career hundred and first-ever as skipper on the third morning.
In the pre-match press conference for the one-off Test against Zimbabwe, Bangladesh skipper Mominul Haque promised that someone would go on to score big for Bangladesh in this match.
Bangladesh had no centuries from their batsmen in their last four Tests. In their last Test against Pakistan, their batsmen got off to starts but failed to make it big.
And it looked the same against Zimbabwe at Mirpur. Tamim Iqbal started well but only scored 41 and Nazmul Hossain Shanto played with confidence but got out for 71.
But Mominul managed to play fluently and stay unbeaten on 79 at the end of the second day's play.
And within the first hour of the third morning, Mominul picked up his ninth career hundred and first-ever as skipper. He took 156 deliveries to reach the milestone and hit 12 fours on the way.
This ton is a sigh of relief for the Bangladeshi captain as he had been under scrutiny since his appointment. He managed only 12 runs in two Tests against India and despite getting starts against Pakistan, he failed to make it big.
Mominul had said that someone would go on to score 100, 200 or even 300 in this Test and Mominul will hope that he can go all the way.
