Record 19 gold medals for Bangladesh

It was another historic day in the Asian Games for Bangladesh as they have clinched a record 19 gold medals topping their earlier record of 18 gold medals in 2010.

Bangladesh won their 19th gold medal in men's cricket after beating Sri Lanka in the final. 

Bangladesh were the host nation in 2010 when the SA Games was held at Dhaka.

That time around, Bangladesh managed to win 18 golds which included their first from cricket. 

In 2010, Bangladesh won two golds from Boxing, Golf, women's Taekwondo and Wushu. Karate was the most productive event that time around as Bangladesh won four gold medals in that discipline, with three coming from Shooting. Men's cricket, football and weightlifting produced one gold each.    

This time, Bangladesh won their first gold in Karate when Dipu Chakma won the gold in the Poomsae taekwondo event. Later on, three gold medals came from Karate as Al Amin, Marzan Akhter and Humayra Akter won gold in the Kumite karate event. 

Bangladesh had the most success in archery as the Bangladeshi archers managed to win 10 gold medals in all 10 events of archery. 

Bangladesh never won a gold medal in the South Asian Games archery since their participation in the regional games in Colombo 2006, in Dhaka 2010 and in Guwahati in 2016. Bangladesh's previous best performance in the SA Games archery was the three silver medals in Guwahati in 2016. But this time around, they had the Midas touch and won it all. 

Bangladesh women's cricket team also secured gold in the women's cricket event, beating Sri Lanka by two runs in a cliffhanger. Two of the other three gold medals came from weightlifting with Fatema Mujib winning the only gold in fencing for Bangladesh which was also Bangladesh's first gold medal in this discipline.

Ten out of ten from archery

Archers Suma Bishwash, Md Sohel Rana, Mohammad Ruman Shana and Eti Khatun won all four gold medals in all individual archery events on the ninth day of the regional meet.

Bangladeshi compound archer Suma clinched the day's first gold beating Anuradha Karunarante of Sri Lanka by 142-134 scores in the women's compound singles final.

Another compound archer Sohel bagged the day's second and 16th gold for Bangladesh in men's compound singles beating Tandin Dorji of Bhutan by 137-136 scores in the final.

Shana, who became the first Bangladeshi archer to qualify for the Olympic Games, clinched the third gold beating Kinley Tshering of Bhutan by 7-1 set points in men's recurve singles.

Eti Khatun clinched the last archery goldbeating Sonam Dema of Bhutan by 7-3 set points in the final of the women's recurve singles.

Besides, Ashim Kumar Das bagged bronze medal beating Kumara of Sri Lanka by 145-135 scores in the bronze deciding match.

In the 10-meter air rifle mixed team events, Bangladesh's Shakil Ahmed Khan and Ardina Ferdous Akhi won the bronze medal.

In the men's foil team event for fencing, Bangladesh's Rezaul Karim, Rubel Mia and Saddam Hossain won the silver medal.

While in the women's team event, Fatema Mujib, Chadni Akhtar, Farzana Akhtar and Nazia Khatun won bronze.

And in the women's epee team event, Monjila Akhtar, Kamrunnahar and Nazma Khatun won bronze medals.

Finally, in the women's 68-ko=g weight division, Tithi Roy and in the men's 78-kg division, Sheikh Shipon won bronze medals.
