Roman Sana trapped in a circle of despair
Roman, who played for Bangladesh Ansar, lost 1-6 to Jewel Khan of Dhaka Army Archery Club in the pre-quarterfinal of the boys recurve singles at Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium in Tongi.
Roman Sana is not having a good time at all. The poster boy of Bangladesh archery is trapped in a circle of despair. Around whom Bangladesh has been dreaming of winning an Olympic medal, he is currently nowhere near his best.
Roman has been defeated in this year's Bangabandhu 9th Bangladesh Games.
Roman, who played for Bangladesh Ansar, lost 1-6 to Jewel Khan of Dhaka Army archery Club in the pre-quarterfinal of the boys recurve singles at Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium in Tongi.
Roman's start in the Bangladesh Games, however, was great. In the ranking round, Roman set national and Games records at the same time and became first with 61 points. But he could not continue his success in the elimination round.
Roman blamed the Games' hectic schedule for such a disappointing performance.
"We had to play in the changed schedule because of the Corona situation. We had to play ranking rounds, elimination rounds, knockout rounds all through the day. I played non-stop from 8 am till 2 pm," he said.
His body could not take the hectic schedule, Roman said. He also suffered an injury.
"I couldn't get up in the end. In addition, the shoulder injury was not completely recovered. I have never played like this in international games. I feel bad that I couldn't get on the medal stage," he added.
Despite Roman's failure, Archey saw new records in three events in the ranking round.
Nasreen Akhter of the Army set a new national record by lifting 638 points in the girls' recurve singles.
In the men's singles compound, Asim Kumar Das of Police set a new record with 604 points.
Tania Rima of Dhaka Army archery Club scored 69 points in the ranking round.
