Shanto-Mominul steady Bangladesh before lunch
Rain began right after the break in Kanpur, and large parts of the wicket and the ground were covered.
At the lunch break, Bangladesh's score stood at 74 for 2 after 26 overs. Najmul Hossain Shanto was unbeaten on 28, with Mominul Haque on 17.
After losing two wickets in quick succession, Bangladesh found stability through captain Shanto and Mominul.
The pair began rebuilding, forming a 45-run partnership so far for the third wicket, helping to recover from the early loss of both openers before 30 runs were on the board. At lunch, Bangladesh's score was 74 for 2 in 26 overs, with Shanto on 28 and Mominul on 17. Rain started soon after the break, with the ground and pitch being covered.
Bangladesh lose both openers to Akash
Bangladesh didn't get off to an ideal start in their second and final Test against India. Despite a cautious beginning, openers Zakir Hasan and Sadman Islam Anik were both dismissed by Indian pacer Akash Deep.
In the ninth over, with the team on 26 runs, Zakir edged a delivery to Yashasvi Jaiswal at slip. After facing 24 balls, the left-handed opener departed without scoring. Zakir now holds the record for facing the most deliveries by a Bangladeshi top-order batsman before getting out for a duck in Tests.
Just three runs later, Sadman was trapped LBW by Akash. Although the on-field umpire initially did not give him out, India successfully reviewed the decision. Sadman had earlier scored 24 runs off 36 balls.
At the end of 18 overs, Bangladesh's score stood at 55 for 2. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was on 16, with Mominul Haque on 10. India's captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first at Kanpur's Green Park Stadium.
