Soumya Sarkar suffers finger injury during 2nd T20I against West Indies, out for 3-4 weeks
The injury occurred in the seventh over of the West Indies innings when Sarkar attempted a catch and suffered a cut to his right index finger. He did not take any further part in the match.
Bangladesh batter Soumya Sarkar is set to miss around three to four weeks of cricket after sustaining a finger injury during the second T20 International against the West Indies in St. Vincent on Tuesday.
The injury occurred in the seventh over of the West Indies innings when Sarkar attempted a catch and suffered a cut to his right index finger. He did not take any further part in the match.
National team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan confirmed the extent of the injury, stating, "Soumya sustained a cut injury on his right index finger while fielding, which required five stitches. An X-ray conducted after the match revealed a subluxation in the affected area. His recovery may take about three to four weeks."
Sarkar has been an integral part of the Bangladesh team during the ongoing tour of the West Indies. In the first T20I, he played a crucial knock of 35 runs off 24 balls, hitting three boundaries and two sixes, which provided the platform for Bangladesh's successful chase of 157. Though he missed out on a larger score, his brisk innings ensured the team maintained momentum. In the second match, he contributed 18 runs off 13 balls before his injury forced him out of the game. Sarkar also bowled two overs, conceding 16 runs without taking a wicket.
Bangladesh has shown mixed form in the series so far. They began with a dominant performance in the first T20I, securing a seven-wicket victory with three overs to spare, thanks to strong contributions from both the batting and bowling units. However, in the second game, the team struggled after posting 147 runs on the board. Despite a spirited effort by the bowlers, the West Indies successfully chased the target with an over to spare, leveling the series at 1-1.
Sarkar's absence is a significant blow for Bangladesh, as he has been one of their most consistent performers in the shorter formats of the game. His ability to contribute with both bat and ball will be missed as the team prepares for the final match of the series and other upcoming fixtures. Fans and teammates alike will be hoping for his speedy recovery and return to action.
