Tamim Iqbal to feature in NCL T20 for Chattogram
The NCL T20 tournament is scheduled to commence on 11 December.
Tamim Iqbal is set to make a return to competitive cricket earlier than expected, confirming his participation in the National Cricket League (NCL) T20 for Chattogram Division.
The opener has been absent from international cricket for some time, with many anticipating his comeback in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). However, he'll be back on the field in December, well before the BPL begins.
Tamim has remained active in domestic cricket, continuing to play in leagues like the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) and the BPL. In the last BPL season, he captained Fortune Barishal to their maiden title, finishing as the tournament's highest run-scorer and being named Player of the Series.
He is expected to lead Barishal again this season but will first appear for Chattogram in the NCL T20 competition.
During a media briefing at Mirpur, national selector Hannan Sarkar confirmed, "Tamim has expressed a strong interest in playing the NCL T20, and it's almost certain he'll feature. Naturally, he'll represent Chattogram Division. Details, such as the number of matches and specific dates, are yet to be finalised, but Tamim's eagerness is clear."
Hannan also mentioned that Tamim would need to pass a fitness test before playing in the NCL, adding, "Everyone, including senior players, must meet our basic fitness standards. Tamim will have a target to meet in this test. While we've sometimes allowed experienced players to bypass these requirements, Tamim will need to qualify like everyone else given the current league requirements."
