Bangladesh Emerging Team lost the final of the ACC Emerging Cup 2019 to Pakistan by the margin of 77 runs. Chasing 302, Bangladesh were never in the game as they lost wickets on a regular basis to finally get all out for 224.
Asked what was the problem for Bangladesh in finals teams as the record in finals for any Bangladesh team is not something to be proud of, Shanto said that he thought that finals could be won if the team were a bit more relaxed and their mistakes cost them the game. He said, "What I think is, we all should have been a bit more relaxed. We made a few mistakes in the field, the bowlers could not bowl according to the plan in some overs, there were no big partnerships while batting. If we can stay a bit more relaxed like the normal matches, we can do better in the finals."
Questioned if this was a disappointment or a failure considering that the team had several national team players, Nazmul said that he did not think it was either of two. He added that the team should have played more carefully as he wicket was good for batting.
He also added that if the team had played according to the plan, the result could have been different. Shanto said, "Our plan was to keep wickets in hand. As the wicket was good for batting, if we required 100 from the last 10 overs, that could have been done. But that did not work out and hence the result was negative."
Nazmul also said that if there was a good partnership, the target could have been easily reached. "If the start was good, it would have been easier for the rest of the batsmen. If we had a big partnership, we could have won the match from there," Shanto said.
A similar squad to the Emerging Team is to compete in the South Asian (SA) Games. Asked about the expectations, Nazmul said that their target was winning the Gold medal. He said, "Whenever we play in a tournament, we play for being the champions. So obviously, it will be our target to win the gold. Expectations are obviously high for that. If we can take with us the positive we have been playing in the tournament except for today, I think it is very possible to bring good results."
