UTD eye for 'Survival' after Wolves loss, says Amorim
Thursday’s loss at Molineux, United’s third consecutive defeat, meant Amorim became the first United manager since Walter Crickmer in January 1932 to lose five or more of his opening 10 matches in charge.
Ruben Amorim conceded he had "no idea" how long it would take to revive Manchester United, admitting his immediate focus was on "survival" after a 2-0 defeat by Wolves marked the club's worst managerial start in nearly a century.
Thursday's loss at Molineux, United's third consecutive defeat, meant Amorim became the first United manager since Walter Crickmer in January 1932 to lose five or more of his opening 10 matches in charge.
"I have no idea. No idea. Instead of me trying to understand how much time it will take, just day by day," Amorim said when asked about the timeline for implementing his ideas.
"Improving, trying to see the videos, using every minute of training and try to win some points because it's really important in this moment...
"In this moment, we just have to survive and win some time to work on the team.
"We already knew it. I start this job and you start with the team, a new idea, without any time to train, with a lot of games, tough games."
The defeat left United in 14th place in the Premier League, closer to the relegation zone than the Champions League spots, as they prepared to host an in-form Newcastle in their final match of 2024.
Following last week's League Cup quarter-final loss to Tottenham and a home defeat by Bournemouth, United's troubles deepened at Molineux.
United captain Bruno Fernandes received a second yellow card early in the second half, leaving his team with ten men. Wolves capitalized, with Matheus Cunha scoring directly from a corner. Cunha then set up substitute Hwang Hee-chan for a stoppage-time goal, sealing a 2-0 victory.
"The idea needs time," said Amorim. "I said it before to you guys that this will be a tough moment and we are far from the end of this moment and that's it."
Meanwhile, Amorim's compatriot Vitor Pereira enjoyed a perfect start as Wolves manager, building on a commanding 3-0 win at Leicester with another impressive result at Molineux.
"Fantastic feeling," said Pereira after his first home match in charge.
"Special because of the spirit of the team. Now I think we can see that the players are ready to suffer together."
