‘What the f***?’: Paine shocked as controversial DRS overrule leaves cricket world baffled

Australian captain Tim Paine was left flabbergasted and Fox Cricket commentators sceptical after DRS evidence led to a crucial caught behind decision being controversially overturned amid the Aussies' disastrous second innings, reports Fox Sports.

With his team in strife on the third day of the second Test against India, Paine attempted to play a back foot drive through the off-side off left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja.

However, the ball went through to Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, who along with several teammates appealed as they believed he edged the ball through to the keeper.

After umpire Paul Reiffel gave Paine not out, stand-in captain Ajinkya Rahane reviewed the decision straight away.

Third umpire Paul Wilson deemed there was no white mark on Paine's bat on Hot Spot, but 'Snicko' indicated a noise spike as the ball passed the captain's willow. That evidence was enough for Wilson to overturn Reiffel's call, with Paine dismissed for one and leaving the Aussies in strife at 6-99.

Paine was in disbelief at Wilson's decision, appearing to say "what the f***" before reluctantly walking off the MCG.

Aussie leg-spin legend Shane Warne speculated on Fox Cricket whether the Snicko spike was a result of Paine's front foot dragging along the pitch, rather than Jadeja's delivery capturing the edge of the bat.

Former Aussie paceman Brett Lee said Reiffel's initial not out decision shouldn't have been overturned.

"I just don't know how they can overturn something with nothing on the Hot Spot," Lee told Fox Cricket.

"It's (Snicko) lit up there and it's not near the bat.

"I think Tim Paine's got every right to be annoyed, disappointed. That's not right in my opinion, espeically with nothing backed up on the Hot Spot."
