Windies in control of warm-up match
They lead by 276 runs, after bowling BCB XI out for only 160 in their first innings.
The West Indies are in the driving seat at the end of day two of the three-day warm-up match between the visitors and BCB XI. They lead by 276 runs, after bowling BCB XI out for only 160 in their first innings.
Rahkeem Cornwall starred with the ball for the West Indies and some brilliant batting displays from John Campbell and Nkrumah Bonner saw them finish the day on 179 for five.
Shadman Islam and Saif Hassan played out eight overs safely on day 1. But their start on the second day wasn't great at all. Saif returned on the fourth delivery of the second day. BCB XI lost 4 wickets in the first session.
After that Rahkeem Cornwall and Jomel Warrican put on a great display of spin bowling and never let BCB XI batsmen off the hook.
Earlier on day 1, leg-spinners Rishad Hossain and Khaled Ahmed bowled out the Caribbeans for 256 runs.
Although it is a warm-up game, the selectors are keeping a close eye on the proceedings. It was a test for Shadman and Saif but both the batsmen failed in this. Saif, who had scored 15 runs on the previous day, was dismissed in the fourth ball of the second day, not adding anything to his overnight score. Saif got out leg-before off an incoming delivery bowled by pacer Kemar Roach.
Shadman also could not play a substantial knock. The left-handed batsman, who was playing a steady knock, got out after playing a bad shot. He scored 22 runs. Yasir Al Rabbi returned quickly as well. Naim Sheikh top-scored for BCB XI with 45 off 46 balls.
Naim, who played a free-flowing knock, fell victim to Rakim Cornwall. Shadman, despite playing 82 balls, could not handle Alzarri Joseph well. He went to pull a short ball off Joseph but couldn't time it well. The catch was taken by Kraigg Brathwaite.
Nurul Hasan Sohan, the BCB XI skipper, scored 30 off 53 balls. Shahadat Hossain Dipu, a member of the World Cup-winning U-19 team, scored 13 runs. Cornwall took 5 wickets for 47 runs. Warrican took 3 wickets. Kemar Roach and Alzarri Joseph took one wicket each.
Opener Shayne Moseley was trapped leg-before by Khaled Ahmed in the very first over of the West Indies' second innings. Bonner, who came in at three, stitched a 130-run partnership with Campbell.
Part-timer Saif Hassan picked up the wickets of Campbell and Kyle Mayers in quick succession. Campbell made 68.
At stumps on day 2, Bonner stayed unbeaten on 80. He was partnered by Joshua Da Silva who was not out on 0.
Saif Hassan picked up two wickets while Khaled Ahmed, Mukidul Islam and Towhid Hridoy got one apiece.
West Indies scored 257 in their first innings.
