‘My father used to give me the car for two hours in the afternoon’
"I used to hide my Eid clothes and shoes so no one can see. I felt they would get older if anyone saw them. But sometimes I would wear them alone to see how I look"
I spent my childhood in the Banani area of Dhaka. Eid was a very joyous festival for me.
I used to wait for two Eids a year. My father used to buy clothes and shoes for me long before Eid. I used to hide them so no one can see. If anyone wanted to see them, I would not show them. I felt my clothes and shoes would get older if anyone saw them. But sometimes I would wear them alone to see how I look.
Since my childhood, I have been very arrogant. If I did not like something, I would sit in a corner with anger. Then I would get what I wanted. But our parents also used to scold us if necessary. They loved us very much. Tasty foods were cooked in our house on Eid day. I used to get tired of eating them. At the end of the day, I used to calculate the
salami given by the elders.
My father used to give me the car for two hours in the afternoon. Then we used to travel around the city by car. I would also visit the houses of some of our relatives. I also used to go to my friends' house. At that time the roads of Dhaka were empty so it was very enjoyable to move around in a car. Now I have my own children. I have to think for them. I buy clothes and other Eid gifts for them. I also give them Eid salami. I like to cook too.
Then I go out with them. But we've been staying at home due to Covid-19. So I am shopping online and celebrating Eid at home. We went to the rooftop in the afternoon on Eid day last year and took pictures together. This year's Eid will probably also go like this.
