This car takes a ‘leap forward’ in automotive engineering — literally
A recent promotional video showed the car clearing an eight-foot pothole at 75mph — a trick that is as jaw-dropping as it is unexpected
What if a car could leap over potholes and road spikes, or even dance to music? BYD, one of the world's leading manufacturers of new energy vehicles, has made this a reality with its latest creation — the Yangwang U9.
Priced at 1.68 million RMB (approximately $236,000), the Yangwang U9 is set to hit the roads this summer. Its standout feature? An advanced suspension system allows it to lift itself by up to 75mm, enabling it to hop over obstacles. A recent promotional video even showed the car clearing an eight-foot pothole at 75mph — a trick that is as jaw-dropping as it is unexpected.
But the U9 is more than just a party trick. Powered by BYD's e4 platform, it boasts four independent electric motors, delivering 1,300 horsepower and a maximum torque of 1,680 Nm. This translates to a 0-100 km/h sprint in just 2.36 seconds and a top speed of 309.19 km/h.
The car also features dual plug-in ultra-fast charging, with a maximum charging power of 500 kW, ensuring it is as practical as it is powerful.
The DiLink150 intelligent platform, powered by a 4nm 5G chip, offers real-time track data for nearly 30 race tracks across China. The cockpit is fitted with 14-way adjustable seats and a Dynaudio Evidence Series audio system, creating an immersive experience for both driver and passenger.
