‘Digital World’ expo ends with high visitors’ turnout
The digital influx shows Bangladesh’s potential to the world

The country's largest tech exhibition "Digital World 2020" concluded Friday, with ten times higher visitors from both home and abroad than the organisers' estimation of 1 million guests.
More than 10 million visitors visited this year's virtual fair from different countries, stated ICT State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak at the closing ceremony at Bangladesh Film Archive in the capital.
"This digital influx shows our potential to the world," said Salman F Rahman, private industry and investment adviser to the prime minister. While addressing the programme as the chief guest, he termed the huge visitors' engagement as a huge successful.
"The IT sector will help develop our socio-economic condition further, and will be one of our important earning sources," he hoped. Salman F Rahman thanked the government's initiatives to build a digitised country for IT sector development.
He said people can now avail many public services online, which ensures transparency and speed up service delivery time.
On 9 December, President Md Abdul Hamid inaugurated the seventh edition of the expo —jointly organised by the government and stakeholders from the private sector.
This year's event was held both in-person and virtual platforms due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
With the theme "Socially Distanced, Digitally Connected", this year's arrangements included ministerial conferences, seminars, exhibitions, digital world honours and concerts.
The virtual event also featured software showcasing, e-governance expo, e-commerce expo and freelancer conference. A virtual "Mujib Corner" was also in the expo, celebrating the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Chairman of Standing Committee for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications & Information Technology AKM Rahmatullah, ICT Division Senior Secretary NM Zeaul Alam, Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) Executive Director Parthapratim Deb and Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) President Syed Almas Kabir were also present at the closing ceremony.
