Futuristic laptop ditches screen for AR
The Spacetop G1 from Sightful, a $1,900 device, is redefining the traditional laptop experience by completely eliminating the screen.
This revolutionary device, designed for the future of computing, uses augmented reality (AR) to project a virtual display directly in front of the user.
The specifications of the laptop might seem pretty basic — a Qualcomm Snapdragon QCS8550 processor, 16 GB RAM and 128 GB of SSD storage.
But where the device truly stands out is the mechanism of the screen, utilising AR technology to project a 100-inch virtual display through its glasses.
The Spacetop's physical keyboard tray remains on the desk, while its virtual display offers the convenience of multiple monitors without the bulk of extra hardware.
PCWorld reports the glasses imitate a 90 Hz OLED screen — offering a more catchy visual experience. The field of view of the screen is 50 degrees with a pixel density of 44 PPD.
The design of the glasses has been refined for improved comfort and balance. Sightful provides custom prescription lenses ranging from -8.00D to +6.00D. If you provide your prescription when purchasing the Spacetop G1, the lenses will be included in the box.
Spacetop G1 offers a moderate battery life — up to seven hours, as claimed by Sightful. It can charge from 0-85% in under two hours. The glasses weigh just 0.19 pounds.
Sightful is taking pre-orders of the device for a $100 downpayment. It is expected to hit the markets in October.
