BASIS President Russell resigns
He cited “personal reasons” for the resignation
Russell T Ahmed, president of the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS), resigned from his post today (17 October).
He submitted his resignation letter, seen by The Business Standard, to the ICT industry's apex trade body's executive committee citing "personal reasons" for the resignation.
In the letter, Russel also wrote about "the ongoing blame games" within the association that "raised safety concern" for himself and his family members.
BASIS employees have been observing protests demanding changes in their leadership.
Russel's resignation comes as some unverified documents are circulating on social media alleging rivals of colluding with the previous government for their own benefits.
Russel, in his resignation letter, claimed that the allegations were false.
Former BASIS president Syed Almas Kabir was recently arrested on a murder case and he was granted bail on the same day as he was abroad during the said incident.
Russell T Ahmed was reelected as BASIS president in May this year for the 2024-26 term. He served the BASIS committee for three terms prior to his presidency.
Prior to BASIS, leaders of e-commerce, computer merchants, call centre associations resigned and in some cases the ministry of commerce had to appoint administrators there to conduct an election.
