Sonia Bashir Kabir receives ‘ICT Businessperson of the year’ accolade
This is the first time in the country a woman was honoured with this prestigious award
Tech and innovation icon Sonia Bashir Kabir has received the 'ICT Businessperson of the Year' award for her outstanding contribution to the country's information and communication technology.
Prime minister's International Affairs Adviser Dr Gowher Rizvi handed over the award to her at the Daily Star ICT Awards 2019 at a Dhaka hotel on Friday.
This is the first time in the country a woman was honoured this prestigious award, said a press release issued by the SBK Tech Ventures.
She is the founder and chairman of SBK Tech Ventures and SBK Foundation, and previously was the managing director of Microsoft Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Myanmar, and Laos for five years.
Besides, she also co-founded over 10 tech startups, including Dmoney, Syntec, Digiland, Uqeel, Agrisensor, Turbo technologies, Hishabplus.com, United ventures, Dokkho, Proshanti and Pulse.
While receiving the award, Sonia said, "I am honoured and grateful to have won the Businessperson of the Year Award for the first time as a woman in the country."
She further said, "I feel blessed to have the chance to work with the talented youth in Bangladesh. I believe technology will empower our youth to change the lives of the people of Bangladesh."
She thanked the organisers for honouring her with this prestigious accolade. Previously, he was also honoured with some other notable international awards.
