Tecno’s Phantom Ultimate 2 phone will be a tri-fold device
Tecno has introduced its first tri-fold concept phone, the Phantom Ultimate 2, which is expected to be available for hands-on experience next year.
This innovative device stands out by offering a larger screen in a compact form, addressing the growing demand for versatile and portable devices.
The Phantom Ultimate 2 transforms from a standard smartphone into a 10-inch display, significantly larger than the 8-inch screens seen in traditional book-style foldable phones like the Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 6.
Despite its three screens, the device maintains portability, with a thickness of just 11 millimeters. This is achieved in part by a slim 0.25-millimeter battery, making it only slightly thicker than its competitors, reports CNET.
Tecno designed the Phantom Ultimate 2 with durability in mind, featuring hinges tested for 300,000 folds. The phone supports various folding modes, including a laptop-like setup where one screen acts as a keyboard. Additionally, it offers a "tent mode" for face-to-face communication, with AI providing real-time language translation.
While tri-fold phones are not entirely new, Tecno's Phantom Ultimate 2 brings a fresh take on the concept with its emphasis on portability and user experience.
CNET also reports the global foldable phone market is rapidly expanding, with shipments expected to reach 25 million units by the end of 2024.
Tecno, along with competitors like Huawei and Samsung, is pushing the boundaries of what foldable technology can offer, making the future of smartphones more dynamic and versatile.
