The new e-sport: Microsoft Excel World Cup begins on Tuesday

Are you one of those rare breeds of people who are really good at Microsoft Excel? Are you a wizard financial analyst with nothing to show for it but piles of money? If yes, then this is certainly your time to shine.
Once thought of as a skill used only to lie about on your CV, there is now the Microsoft Excel Financial Modeling World Cup and it is being considered an actual e-sport.
The competition will begin on Tuesday and boasts financial analysts from eight countries, including India, United States of America and the Great Britain.

The first of its kind event will have participant showcasing their Excel skills in a manner never seen before.
Although it cannot be confirmed if the "Financial Modeling World Cup Multiplayer Battle" is officially sponsored by Microsoft, it is co-hosted by two employees of the company, Danielle Stein Fairhurst and Adam Callens, Gamespot reports. The FM World Cup's website lists both Microsoft and AG Capital as its chief sponsors.
While the competition has taken place a few times before, this is the first time "esports" tag has been attached to it.
For winners, a prize fund of $20,000 is split among various categories – overall, regional champions, age group winners, etc.
The competition is open for everyone, provided they had registered earlier.
The Microsoft Excel Financial Modeling World Cup will be live-streamed on the official YouTube channel of Financial Modeling World Cup.
