The 2020 United States Election has placed the spotlight not only on the two candidates, but also on their families. Let's take a look at Joe Biden's wife, Jill Biden.
Earlier this March, Jill Biden made headlines when she defended her husband against a protester at a rally in Los Angeles. At his presidential debates and election rallies, she stood beside her husband, endorsing his effort to take Donald Trump down from the White House.
Jill Biden was born in Hammonton, New Jersey, on 3 June, 1951 but was brought up in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.
While her mother was a homemaker, her father, Donald, was a teller. Jill first wanted to study fashion merchandising, then decided to graduate from the University of Delaware with a major in English. She and her first husband, Bill Stevenson, attended college and were later divorced in 1975.
Joe Biden's brother, who had studied with Jill at the University of Delaware arranged a blind date for them. Two years later, they tied the knot on June 17, 1977. Jill and Joe Biden have a daughter together- Ashley Blazer Biden, a 39-year-old social worker, activist and fashion designer. Jill became to Hunter Biden and Joseph "Beau" Biden, who were children from Joe's previous marriage to Neilia Hunter.
Jill received her bachelor's degree and two master's degrees. Then in 2007, she earned a doctoral degree in education from the University of Delaware, and has been teaching since the 1970s.
She plans to return to her job as an English professor at Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA). What sets her apart is the fact that, when her husband was the US vice president, she taught English at NOVA, making her the first second lady to work for a living.
