Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), opened its first-ever fully air-conditioned walkway last week to give pedestrians a respite from the scorching heat of summer months, reports Gulf News.
Located in the Al Nahyan area near the Al Mamoura building, the walkway features a state-of-the-art cooling system embedded along the pathway, maintaining a steady temperature of 24°C year-round.
In addition to climate control, the walkway includes retail outlets, cafés, and outdoor seating areas that are designed for use throughout the year. Its innovative design allows natural sunlight to filter through while keeping the cool air inside.
This project, launched by the Department of Municipalities and Transport, is more than just about comfort. It's about improving the overall quality of urban life in Abu Dhabi, according to a UAE Moments article.
Abu Dhabi is known for its high temperatures, especially during the summer. With this new walkway, the city is taking a major step in creating more sustainable and livable public spaces.
