10 accused in Ctg lawyer Alif murder case shown arrested in vandalism and assault case
Ten individuals accused in the murder of Chattogram lawyer Saiful Islam Alif have been shown arrested in a separate case involving assault, vandalism, and the use of explosives.
The order was passed by Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam following a hearing this morning (18 December).
The individuals named in the case are Chandan Das, Rumit Das, Bishal Das, Rajib Bhattacharya, Aman Das, Nayan Das, Gagan Das, Durlabh Das, Sumit Das, and Monu Das.
On 30 November, Saiful Islam's brother, Khan Alam, filed a case at Kotwali police station against 116 identified individuals and 500 unidentified persons, accusing them of physical assault, vehicle vandalism on the court premises, and detonating explosives.
Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Prosecution) Mofizur Rahman confirmed the matter and said that an application was made to show the 10 accused, previously arrested in the murder case, as formally arrested in the assault, vandalism, and explosives case.
"Following the hearing, the court approved the application and sent the accused to jail", he added.
In connection with Saiful Islam Alif's murder, three of the accused have given confessional statements before the court.
Among them, key suspects Chandan Das and Rajib Bhattacharya admitted their involvement. They detailed how Ripon Das attacked the victim with a fish knife, striking him twice on the neck, while Chandan Das used another sharp weapon to inflict additional blows.
According to the police, video footage from the incident showed Chandan Das wearing a grey helmet, an orange shirt, and black pants, wielding a machete. Ripon Das was seen holding a fish knife, dressed in a blue shirt, jeans, and a red helmet.
The murder occurred on 26 November, prompting Saiful Islam's father, Jamal Uddin, to file a case naming 31 individuals and 15 unidentified suspects.
