15 fishermen rescued from floating trawler in Meghna
Due to a glitch in the engine, the fishing boat has been floating in the river
Bangladesh Coast Guard on Tuesday rescued 15 fishermen from an out-of-service fishing trawler floating in the Meghna River near the Hatia coast of the Bay of Bengal, said a press release.
"On 28 July, a trawler named FV Sohrab went to the Bay of Bengal from Hatia upazila of Noakhali district for fishing. While returning, the trawler went out of service due to a glitch in the engine and floated uncontrollably," Lieutenant Commander Abdur Rahman, media officer of the Coast Guard Headquarters, said.
Later, the fishermen contacted the Coast Guard's Hatia Station seeking rescue assistance, he added.
Then, a team the coast guard conducted an operation and rescued the floating trawler also with 15 fishermen unharmed around 3.30 pm on Tuesday.
The trawler was towed to Budduna Ghat of Hatia Upazila. Later, the fishing boat along with the fishermen was handed over to the boat owner, he added.
