2 DU students sent to jail over mugging
The duo halted a sand-laden truck near the High Court and allegedly robbed the driver
A Dhaka court has sent two Dhaka University students to jail, rejecting their bail pleas in a case over robbing a truck driver in the capital on Saturday.
The accused students are Md Al Amin, a third year student of the Institute of Education and Research, and Zubayer Ahmed Shanto, a student of International Relation in Dhaka University.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Satyabrata Shikder passed the order after police produced them before the court with a detention prayer till the investigation is over.
Shahbagh police station's General recording officer Sub Inspector Ashraf Hossain said earlier in the morning the duo allegedly halted a sand-laden truck near the High Court and sought the driver's documents for checking and demanded Tk10,000.
When the driver said he had no money with him, the duo tortured him and called the truck's supervisor.
After the truck's supervisor Md Sohel arrived, they transferred Tk1,950 from his rocket account using his mobile phone and, later, deleted the money transaction message.
The nearby police on duty detained Amin and Shanto after noticing something wrong.
Sohel filed a case with Shahbagh police station against them under speedy trial act.
