2 killed in wild elephant attack in Ctg, Rangamati
Two people were killed in separate attacks by wild elephants at Lohagara in Chattogram and Kaptai in Rangamati on Sunday.
In Lohagara, the deceased was identified as Mohammad Abdul Khaleq, 55, a farmer hailing from Chunti Ashkar Ali Para.
In Kaptai, the identity of the 45-year-old man could not be ascertained. However, he is known to be mentally handicapped.
Md Rafiqul Islam, in-charge (inspector) of Chunti police outpost in Lohagara Upazila said Abdul Khaleq was guarding the paddy field while a wild elephant attacked.
A police team led by Chunti police outpost Sub Inspector Rezoanul went to the spot and recovered his body and handed it to the family.
Chittagong Hill Tracts South Kaptai Range Officer Mohsin Talukder said, "For a long time, a mentally handicapped person from the area has been seen wandering in and around the forest. At 6 am on Sunday, forest guards on duty saw the man attacked by a wild elephant which severed his limbs and left him on the side of the road."
