A wild elephant was found dead in the hilly area of Hnila union in Cox's Bazar's Teknaf upazila today (18 January).
"The dead elephant, estimated to be 8-10 years old, was recovered from the Hnila Beat," the upazila's Assistant Conservator of Forests Md Monirul Islam told The Business Standard.
After conducting a surathal, a report that investigates a suspicious or unnatural death, the elephant was buried in the hills, he said.
"Preliminary investigation suggests that the elephant may have fallen from a cliff and died. However, the exact cause of death will be determined after the surathal report," he added.
On 16 August 2024, another elephant died after being electrocuted in Noakhali Para under Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar.
