2 more arrested for beating man to death in Ctg
Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two more suspects in the case filed over beating a man to death while singing and dancing after tying him to a traffic box pole in Chattogram on 13 August.
They made the arrests last night (6 October), said Mohammad Shariful Alam, senior assistant director (Media) of RAB-7.
The arrestees were identified as Mohammad Mehedi Hasan Sagor, 28, and Mohammad Shanta, 28, from the Debarpar area under Chattogram's Khulshi police station.
Shariful Alam said, "On 21 September, a video of a crowd tying a young man and beating him while singing and dancing came to the attention of the police. Analysing the video, the police identified the youth as Shahadat Hossain, 24.
"Police also arrested three individuals in connection with the murder on 25 September, while many other suspects remained at large. RAB-7 had been conducting intelligence surveillance to arrest the remaining suspects since then," he added.
The RAB-7 senior assistant director also said, "Acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-7 arrested Mehedi Hasan Sagor and Mohammad Shanta from the city's Garibullah Shah Mazar area on Sunday night.
He said the arrestee, Mehedi Hasan Sagar, confessed to calling the victim Shahadat Hossain on his mobile phone on 13 August and later abducting him and demanding ransom from the victim's wife.
"During primary interrogation, the other arrestee, Shanto, admitted to being at the spot. The arrestee has been handed over to the police for further legal actions," he said.
Earlier on 25 September, police arrested a businessman, Farhad Ahmed Chowdhury, 42; college student Anisur Rahman Ifat, 19; and 16-year-old school dropout Mohammad Salman in connection with Shahadat's killing.
In a press briefing on 25 September, police said Shahadat was beaten to death by members of Chattogram Chhatra Janata Traffic Group as a suspect of robbery after tying him to the traffic poles in the Gate No 2 area in Chattogram on 13 August.
