25-km tailback on Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge highway

Thousands of people are returning home amidst the outbreak of coronavirus.
The long tailback that was formed on the Dhaka-Tangail-Bangabandhu bridge highway on Wednesday, continues today.
Due to the increased number of vehicles, a 25-kilometre-long tailback has been created from east side of the Bangabandhu bride to Rabna of Tangail city bypass.

There are more trucks than passenger buses on the highway. Passengers are returning home at the risk of the virus on the trucks and pick-up vans as buses are called off. The 25-km road, which usually takes about 30 minutes to cross, is taking more than four to five hours. This has resulted in extreme anxiety and sufferings to the home bound people.
Bangabandhu Bridge East Police Station Officer-in-Charge Kazi Ayubur Rahman said, "The number of people leaving for home has increased due to the announcement of the government holiday. Also, there are more trucks on the highway as the passenger buses are not in service right now. As a result, there is some traffic congestion. Police are working to reduce the tailback."
