3 children missing among four as boat sinks in Chattogram
Four people, including three children, went missing after a boat sank in flood waters in Chattogram's Satkania upazila on Tuesday (8 August).
The incident took place around 5pm on Tuesday when the boat carrying three children, a man and a woman, sank on its way to Suipura from Charati, according to the Chairman of Charati Union Mohammad Ruhullah.
They are Sanjida Akter Adira, 4, Jannatul Ferdous, 4, Md Shahidul Islam, 3, and Abdur Rahim.
Deputy Director of Chittagong Fire Service Abdul Halim said they were unable to go to the spot even after receiving the news of the incident.
Due to a power outage in Chattogram for the past two days amid heavy rain, the fire service could not contact the local team to run a rescue operation, he added.
Speaking to The Business Standard, Ariful Islam, father of one of the missing children Sanjida, said he brought his child along to visit relatives in South Charati. On their way home to Kanchana, the boat was swept away due to heavy current and ended up sinking.
