A total of four business entities adjacent to Munshiganj's Mirkadim Municipality Building were gutted in a fire last night (8 February).
Two units of Munshiganj Sadar and Komla Ghat Port Fire Service along with locals and a voluntary team of Bangladesh Red Crescent worked to bring the fire under control, fire service officials said.
Confirming the matter, Senior Station Officer of Munshiganj Sadar upazila Fire Service Mahafuz Tanzir said they reached the spot after receiving information about the fire around 10:30pm.
The fire was extinguished after 1.5-hour efforts, the fire service official said.
According to Mahafuz, the fire originated from a sound system shop and soon spread to nearby shops and storehouses containing wood, furniture and fruits.
The furniture shops would not have been saved unless the fire was controlled. The primary reason for the fire is thought to be an electrical short circuit, the fire service official added.
The exact amount of losses will be known after an investigation, the fire service official further said.
