At least 6 die from ‘heat stroke’ in Nilphamari, Munshiganj
At least six people died today (30 April) possibly from heat stroke in different areas of Nilphamari and Munshiganj amid the sweltering heat across the country.
In Munshiganj, four people have died possibly from heat stroke, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Lal Babu, 52 of Sadar upazila, Manir Hossain, 52 of Dimla upazila, Mansur, 55 and Khodeza, 65 of Jaldhaka upazila of the district.
All of them suddenly fell sick and died while working under the open sky amid the intense hot weather, said Jaldhaka Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ashraful Haque.
Local Met office recorded 42 degrees Celsius temperature in the district today.
Meanwhile, in Munshiganj, two elderly people have died after falling sick due to the extreme heat.
The deceased were identified as farmer Omar Ali, 65 of Mollar Char area, and Abdul Baten Majhi, 68 of Manikpur area of the district.
Talking to The Business Standard, Dr Shoibal Basak in charge of the Munshiganj General Hospital's emergency department, said, "They were brought dead around 11am.
"The two old men died of heatstroke due to the intense heat," he added.
Baten Majhi's cousin Habibur Rahman said, "My uncle had been suffering from heart disease for a long time. Today he went to the District Registrar Office for land sale work. He suddenly fell ill there.
"Later, when he was taken to the hospital, the doctor declared him dead," he added.
However, a very severe heatwave is sweeping Jashore, Chuadanga, Pabna and Rajshahi districts and a severe heatwave is sweeping Dhaka division and parts of Khulna and Rajshahi divisions.
Besides, a mild to moderate heatwave is lashing Barishal, Rangpur and Chattogram divisions and Mymensingh district and it may continue, said a bulletin of Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD).
Day and night temperatures may remain nearly unchanged over the country. Due to increase of moisture incursion, the discomfort may persist.
