57 surrendered extremists in Rajshahi receive PM’s grant

Some 57 former extremists in Rajshahi, who have returned to normal life surrendering to the law enforcers, have received financial assistance from the prime minister.

Each of the surrendered extremists was provided with a cheque for Tk5,000, at a ceremony organised by the Rajshahi district police on Monday afternoon. Rajshahi City Corporation Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, and legislator from Rajshahi-2 (Sadar) constituency Fazle Hossain Badsha handed over the cheques to them.

Mayor Khairuzzaman Liton thanked the surrendered extremists for returning to normal life and said, "Extremists are rehabilitated on the instructions from visionary leader Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina so that a section of society cannot impede the country's advancement by going astray."

Referring to various schemes taken up by the prime minister to address the current coronavirus crisis, the mayor further said that the country will be able to overcome the crisis if those initiatives are implemented. He also urged the people to extend their cooperation in executing the programmes. 

Meanwhile, Fazle Hossain Badsha said there is no chance for the surrendered extremists to look back. Everyone will have to involve themselves with the development activities, he added.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Rajshahi Range of Police AKM Hafiz Akter, Joint Director of National Security Intelligence Rajshahi Al Zaheer Uddin, and Deputy Commissioner Hamidul Haque, among others, were also present at the event. Superintendent of Police of Rajshahi Shahidullah delivered the welcome speech.

It may be mentioned that these 57 people from Rajshahi along with 539 others surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal in Pabna on April 9, 2019. Then, each of them received a grant of Tk1 lakh from the government.
