Police have detained six individuals in connection with a clash that erupted between two groups for taking control over the jhut (ready-made garment waste) business in the capital's Ashulia.
The incident occurred this afternoon (4 February) in the Kaisa Bari area.
According to the police, one group had been controlling the jhut business of Prudent Fashions Limited, a factory located in the Baipail-Kaichabari area. Recently, another group attempted to take over the business, leading to a conflict between the two sides.
The rival group, attempting to seize control, reportedly attacked the existing group and gathered near the factory, armed with iron rods and other local weapons.
Ashulia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nur-E-Alam Siddique told The Business Standard that the police recovered about 35 iron rods from the scene and detained six individuals who were attempting to take over the factory's jhut business.
"We have heard reports of gunfire but have not been able to confirm it yet. Legal action is underway regarding the incident," the OC added.
Meanwhile, Riaz, vice president of the factory, said, "I was not aware of any such incident involving the factory."
