Cyclone Bulbul could hit Chattogram by Saturday midnight
Two lakh people of Chattogram coastal areas including Sandwip, Anwara and Banshkhali upazilas have moved to safety.
Among them, 50,000 took shelter in different cyclone shelter centres while 1.5 lakh took shelter in concrete buildings.
Deputy Commissioner of Chattogram Mohammed Illius Hossain said this in a press briefing on Saturday evening.
The evacuation process continued till Saturday afternoon.
Deputy Commissioner's Staff Officer Tanvir Ahmed Shamim confirmed this to The Business standard.
Upazila administration officials said that they had a hard time moving the residents as they were reluctant to leave their property and go to the shelter centres. However, the authorities have continued various activities, including warning everyone using megaphones, to prevent casualties
Banshkhali Upazila Executive Officer Momena Akhter said, "Three thousand residents have been moved to different cyclone shelters from the coastal areas of Banshkhali upazila. They are also being provided with various types of dry food by the upazila administration."
According to the district administration, cyclone Bulbul might make landfall in Chattogram by Saturday midnight.
