Less traffic but more people in streets on 9th of lockdown
Paying no heed to the health hygiene rules, many people, without wearing a mask, came out of home without any emergency need
The number of private vehicles and non-motorised vehicles like cycle rickshaw decreased in the capital on Friday, a weekend, the 9th day of strict lockdown, but people moving on main roads, lanes and alleys increased.
Members of law enforcement agencies were seen loosely enforcing lockdown directives in various parts of the city. And paying no heed to the health hygiene rules, many people, without wearing a mask, came out of home without any emergency need.
Some people, who were found hanging out in the allies of Bangla Motors area on Friday afternoon, told TBS they went out to have tea with friends and would go home if policemen come there.
Sub Inspector Khairul Islam, who is in charge of controlling traffics of Matshya Bhaban area, said he has seen less traffic since the morning.
Meanwhile, there were crowds of passengers and vehicles at Shimulia Ferry Ghat in Munshiganj on Friday who wanted to go to their homes in the southern parts of the country, out of fear that the present restrictions may be extended up to Eid.
Confirming the matter, Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation Manager (Commerce) Safayet Ahmed at Shimulia Ghat said, "More than 400 vehicles are waiting to cross the river. Currently, 10 ferries are plying the Shimulia-Banglabazar route."
Regarding the crowd of people amid the strict lockdown at the ghat, he said, "Our responsibility is just to operate the ferry."
According to the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, 585 people were arrested for violating lockdown rules on Friday, of which, 129 were fined Tk1,56,750 through mobile courts. Besides, 414 vehicles were fined Tk8,92,500.
