All involved in ASP’s death must face consequences: Home Minister
Police chief Benazir Ahmed assured they will give top priority to the investigation
Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan on Wednesday said that action will be taken against those involved in the death of Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Anisul Karim Shipon.
"An investigation against the hospital and its employees is currently underway. If necessary, the health department will be engaged," he made these remarks while speaking to journalists at the Home Ministry.
The police officer, who had been suffering from mental stress for the past few days, died minutes after he was taken to Mind Aid hospital in the city's Adabar on Monday night.
Police alleged that Anisul was beaten to death by hospital employees – an allegation denied by the hospital authorities.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Benazir Ahmed gave assurances that police will give top priority to this murder investigation, read a message sent on Wednesday by the media wing of the Police Headquarters.
All those involved in this murder will be held accountable via a proper investigation, to prevent a recurrence of such incidents, it added.
Police arrested Dr Niaz Morshed, director of Mind Aid Hospital, on Tuesday night in connection with the death.
Niaz was arrested at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment, said Kazi Shahiduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Adabar Police Station.
He is now in police custody at the hospital, while his treatment continues, the OC added
Earlier, 10 employees of the hospital had been arrested and put on a seven-day remand in connection with the incident.
Police have sealed off the hospital premises after an investigation revealed that it was being run without any mental health professional or valid licenses and documentation.
His father filed a case, accusing 15 hospital staffers.
