Adviser Hassan Ariff's son Muazz sued by ex-wife over domestic violence
A case has been filed against Muazz Ariff, son of interim government Adviser AF Hassan Ariff who oversees the land and civil aviation and tourism ministries, on the charge of domestic violence.
Madhabi Akter Nila, the former wife of Muazz, filed the case at the capital's Ramna Police Station today.
Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of Ramna zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, said the case was filed under the Women and Child Repression Prevention Act.
The process is on to take further action in this regard after the investigation, he said.
According to the case details, Muaz married Nila in 2018, and they have two daughters. Their marriage ended through a court in 2021. On 29 November, the two met at Dhaka Club to discuss reconciliation for their daughters' sake. During their meeting, Nila alleged that Muaz sexually assaulted her, struck her with a sharp object, and attempted to strangle her.
Nila further claimed that while she was undergoing treatment, Muaz entered her residence and took away personal belongings, including a laptop, mobile phone, and certificates. She also claimed Muaz's current wife, Preeti Saeed, of sharing personal photos online, leading to her social humiliation.
Nila reported difficulties filing the case initially, alleging that police delayed registration due to Muaz's political connections. She protested outside Ramna Police Station on Monday morning before the case was formally accepted. "I want justice for the years of abuse and injustice I've endured," Nila told the media.
