Army chief to return home on 12 February
General Aziz Ahmed is now on an official trip to the US
The chief of army staff at Bangladesh Army, General Aziz Ahmed, will return home on 12 February upon completion of his official trip to the United States.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Directorate made the disclosure in a press release on Saturday, saying the army chief had left country for the United States on 29 January.
It said General Aziz Ahmed is now on an official trip to the US. He went on the trip in response to an invitation by his US counterpart.
During the visit, General Aziz Ahmed attended a discussion at the Office of the Secretary of Defence for Policy South and Southeast Asia on regional defence and mutual military cooperation between the two countries.
Apart from that, he also visited various US military installations and training facilities.
The army chief paid a courtesy call on his US counterpart and discussed ways to strengthen the relations between the armies of the two countries as well as mutual cooperation.
During his stay in the United States, the army chief also exchanged views with military advisers and under-secretary-generals to the United Nations (UN) peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan.
His US trip would play an important role in increasing the number of Bangladeshi members in UN peacekeeping missions, conducting various peacekeeping missions in a fair manner, and increasing Bangladesh's delegacy at the policy-making level, read the release.
