5 killed, 25 injured in Rangpur road accidents
At least five people were killed and 25 others injured in three separate road accidents on the Rangpur-Dhaka Highway this morning (31 January).
A Kurigram-bound coach of Pavel Express, collided head-on with Mahindra, coming from Kawnia, at Nabdiganj Bazar around 10am, leaving three people dead on the spot and four injured, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mahiganj Police Station Abdul Quddus.
"The injured people were taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital, while the deceased were sent to the hospital morgue."
The OC said however, identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately.
Earlier, a Kurigram-bound bus from Satkhira was hit by another bus near the Baro Dargah Highway police outpost in Pirganj upazila around 7:30am, killing one passenger and injuring 21 others.
Meanwhile. an unidentified pedestrian was killed as a bus hit him in the Nazirhat area of Rangpur city.
Rangpur Police Superintendent Abu Sayem stated that these accidents happened due to dense fog.
He also attributed to the reckless driving for these accidents.
