Muktijuddho Mancha demands arrest of people opposing Bangabandhu's sculpture
They also declared to hold protest rallies and human chain across the country on December 1 if their demands are not met
The leaders and activists of Muktijuddho Mancha blocked Shahbagh intersection in Dhaka for around two hours demanding arrest of Hefazat-e-Islam and Islami Andolan leaders for opposing the construction of sculpture of Bangabandhu, the architect of independent Bangladesh.
Hundreds of activists of the platform gathered at Shahbagh at around 3.30pm on Saturday and staged demonstartion, blocking the intersection, Shahbagh Police Station officer-in-charge Mamunur Rashid told The Business Standard.
The demonstration disrupted traffic flow heavily in Shahbagh and its surrounding areas. Police, later, brought the situation under control, the OC added.
The organisation declared to hold protest rallies and human chains across the country on December 1 if their demands are not met in the meantime.
Muktijuddho Mancha President Aminul Islam Bulbul and general secretary Al-Mamun joined the demonstration.
The seven-point demands include arrest of Hefazat-e-Islam leader Maulana Mamunul Haque and Nayeb-e-Amir of Islami Andolan Syed Muhammad Rezaul Karim for spreading hatred over Bangabandhu's sculpture, and installation of Bangabandhu's sculpture at every educational Institute, all upazilas and districts.
Religion-based politics has to be banned in the country to keep communal harmony, the protesters also demanded.
