Arsa militant arrested with arms, ammunition in Ukhiya Rohingya camp

A suspected militant of the Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA) was arrested with arms and ammunition in a joint operation at a Rohingya camp in Ukhiya, Cox's Bazar, earlier this morning (7 October).
The joint forces, including the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), and Armed Police Battalion (APBn), conducted the operation at Block A-6 of Jamtoli 15 no Rohingya camp under Palongkhali union, confirmed Md Abul Kalam Chowdhury, senior assistant director (Law and Media) of RAB-15 and additional superintendent of Cox's Bazar police.
The arrestee, identified as Petan Ali, 42, is from Block E-3 of Hakim Para 14 no Rohingya camp in Ukhiya.
"We received information that several armed individuals had gathered in Block A-6 of Jamtoli camp early Monday with the intention of committing criminal activities. A joint team from RAB, BGB, and APBn was deployed to conduct a raid. Upon reaching the site, the suspect attempted to flee but was arrested," said Abul Kalam.
"During a search, we recovered one locally made gun and two rounds of ammunition from his possession," he added.
The RAB official also said that the arrested individual is an active member of the Myanmar-based militant group Arsa and has been involved in various crimes, including kidnapping, extortion, and arms dealing.
Additional Superintendent of police Md Abul Kalam Chowdhury also said that a case has been filed against the detainee at Ukhiya police station under the relevant laws.
