Babunagari dissolves Hefazat's central committee
Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Junayed Babunagari has dissolved its central committee on Sunday night.
In a Facebook video, Babunagari said, "Following advice of senior Hefazat leaders, the central committee of Hefazat-e-Islam has been dissolved considering the overall situation in the country."
He also said, "Hefazat will resume its activities in future after forming a convening committee."
The decision came days after arrest of more than a dozen leaders of the Islamist group for their alleged involvement in countrywide violence that claimed at least 17 lives during protests over Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh last month.
Besides, some Hefazat leaders also quitted citing recent violence and demanding punishment of the involved leaders.
Sources in Hefazat said, they have plan to form a new central committee with non-political scholars.
Earlier in the day, Al-Hayatul Ulaya Lil-Jami'atil Qawmia Bangladesh, under which Qawmi Madrasas' highest level of exam - Dawra-e-Hadith- is held, said students and teachers of Qawmi Madrasas will remain out of all kinds of politics in the country.
