Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen inaugurated the call center via videoconferencing from his office in Dhaka
The government has launched "Probash Bandhu Call Centre" to provide Bangladeshi expatriates staying in Bahrain with healthcare and counselling facilities.
Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen on Wednesday inaugurated the call centre through videoconferencing from his office in Dhaka, said a press release.
State Minister for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Zunaid Ahmed Palak, Foreign Secretary Masud Bin Momen, Senior Secretary to the ICT Division NM Ziaul Alam and Secretary to the expatriate welfare and overseas employment ministry Dr Ahmed Munirus Saleheen were also present in the inauguration ceremony.
Referring to his telephone conversation with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr Momen said, "Bahrain has promised not to deport Bangladeshi workers, and to provide those who have been staying there illegally with legal status."
"Bangladeshi workers can now get access to doctors and medical attention sitting at their homes," he added.
Currently, 12 Bangladeshi doctors who are staying in Bahrain have the registration procedure to provide these services. Ten doctors living in Bangladesh will provide overall assistance to the call centre.
The Bangladeshi expatriates can avail the service from 9am to 9pm.
