Bankers’ org protest Agrani Bank officer's murder
A human chain was formed in front of National Press Club on Friday protesting over the death of Sheikh Moudud Ahmed, an officer of Agrani Bank Haripur Gasfield Branch in Sylhet.
The programme was arranged by the Next Generation Banker of Bangladesh—a platform of young professional bankers formed in 2018.
Speaking on the occasion, Wasi Uddin Chowdhury, a senior member of the organisation and a banker of Al-Arafa Islami Bank said, the unfortunate murder of Moudud shocked them to the core.
"We, the bankers have served the nation during the trying time of Covid-19 and have worked as one of the frontline workers. An attack on us means an attack on the economy," he said.
Wasi said the government should ensure proper justice for the killing of Moudud.
South East Bank official Nihad Ferdous said the murder of Moudud is unacceptable.
"Imagine you are being killed for having a dispute with your CNG driver. This is such a petty reason. There is no guarantee of life in this country," he said.
A week ago on 20 February, Moudud hired a CNG-run auto-rickshaw from Haripur area of Sylhet's Jaintiapur upazila to go to Bandarbazar in the city.
Upon reaching there, he locked into an altercation with the driver over the fare.
He was then beaten badly by the driver and his transport worker associates.
Moudud,35, died at Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital that night, an hour after he was taken there by locals.
