BSTI to provide conditional temporary certificates to release imported raw materials for industries from ports
The government has brought 299 items under quality certification understanding the importance of these products for consumers
The Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) has decided to issue temporary certificates on condition during the release of imported raw materials for industries to make its services easier and emphasise port demurrage incurred by importers.
The regulatory body announced the decision through a press release sent to media today (22 January).
The government has brought 299 items under quality certification understanding the importance of these products for consumers.
According to the Appendix-4 under Section 25(48) of the Import Policy Order (2021-24), importers will have to receive certificates for 79 products from BSTI after the testing of the imported goods before final taxation by the Customs.
The importers will have to submit the certificates to the Customs authority, the release read.
Among the conditions under which BSTI will issue certificates are- proof of the imported goods as raw materials for industries, location of the warehouse where the items will be stored and application to receive certificates from BSTI authority at the ports through which the items will be imported.
Final certificates will be provided if the imported raw materials pass the quality test available in Bangladesh, the released added.
BSTI warned that legal action will be taken if imported raw materials are stored outside certified warehouses or used and sold before certification issuance.
