Buriganga launch capsize: Mayur-2 launch assistant held
The arrestee, Md Nasir Mridha, 40 from Barishal is one of the main accused in the case filed over the incident
The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested the assistant of the "Mayur-2" launch from the MV Rajib-2 cargo ship stationed in the port area of Bagerhat district today (Wednesday) in connection with the Buriganga launch capsize that claimed the lives of 34 people.
The arrestee, Md Nasir Mridha, 40 from Barishal is one of the main accused in the case filed over the incident.
RAB confirmed the matter at 1 pm from the headquarters of Barishal City's Rupatali area RAB-8 office.

"Acting on a tipoff, a RAB team raided the area and arrested assistant Nasir early on Wednesday," Barisal RAB-8 Deputy Commander Major Jahangir Alam said.
"Assistant Nasir is the sixth accused in the case. He has been handed over to South Keraniganj Police Station," He further added.
Meanwhile, Sadarghat Naval Police interrogated Abdus Salam the supervisor of the Mayur-2 launch.
Abdus Salam told the police that on the day of the incident on June 29, assistant Nasir was operating the launch in place of the launch's master Abul Bashar Mollah, who was arrested by RAB on July 13.
34 people were killed on June 29 when the launch "Morning Bird" capsized and sank in the Buriganga River after it was hit by the launch "Mayur-2".
On June 30, a case was filed at South Keraniganj Police Station over the incident. After the launch accident, a team of Barisal RAB-8 started the investigation into the case.
Apart from launch owner Mosaddek Hanif Sayed, the six others named in the case are members of the Mayur-2 launch's crew. They have been identified as Master Abul Bashar, Master Zakir Hossain, driver Shipon Hawlader, Shakil Hossain, Hridoy, and Sukani Nasir Mridha.
Earlier, police arrested Abdus Salam, supervisor of the launch, and the owner of Mayur-2 launch Mosaddek Sayed on July 7 and July 9 respectively.
