15 Chhatra Dal men injured in Dhaka University attack
At least 15 leaders and activists of BNP's student wing Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal were injured in an attack allegedly by the Bangladesh Chhatra League at Dhaka University campus on Tuesday afternoon, said students.
The injured were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital and some other private hospitals, said Khorshed Alam Sohel, president of Chhatra Dal Dhaka University unit.
He said the condition of 4-5 injured Chhatra Dal men was critical.
According to Dhaka University authorities, the newly-formed Chhatra Dal committee for the university was scheduled to meet Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman on Tuesday afternoon.
As the Chhatra Dal men were entering the campus, they came under the attack in front of Sir AF Rahman Hall.
Khorshed Alam Sohel blamed the vice-chancellor for failing to ensure safety on the campus. He said, "The Chhatra League has established a reign of terror on the campus."
However, Saddam Hussain, general secretary of Chhatra League Dhaka University unit, denied any involvement in the attack as he told The Business Standard that they were in a meeting with the vice-chancellor during the time.
"It could be an internal clash of Chhatra Dal," he commented.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Md Akhtaruzzaman told TBS that they are looking into the matter. "We will do everything to ensure an excellent academic atmosphere on the campus."
According to Dhaka University sources, Chhatra Dal was pushed out of the campus in 2010 and was not allowed until the 2019 Dhaka University Central Student Union election.
Since then, there had apparently been a co-existence of different student politics until May this year.
On 26 May 2022, dozens of Chhatra Dal and Chhatra League men were injured as they clashed on the campus, causing Chhatra Dal to remain out of the campus again.
