A dispute over khas land in Rajarhat upazila of Kurigram district turned violent, leaving a 52-year-old man dead and five others injured in a clash between two rival groups of villagers.
The deceased has been identified as Md Belal Hossain.
According to Rajarhat Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Taslim Uddin, a long-standing conflict between Abdul Jabbar and Abdul Hakim over the possession of 20 decimals of land in Tongar Kuti, under Bidyanondo union, escalated into violence.
On Monday morning, supporters of both groups attempted to assert control over the disputed land, leading to a fierce confrontation in which six people sustained injuries.
Belal, a supporter of Abdul Hakim, succumbed to his injuries while being taken to a local hospital.
Police said they are investigating the incident, and security in the area has been tightened to prevent further clashes.
