On the morning of Friday, 7 February 2025, Lieutenant Commander Md. Siam-ul-Haque, the Coast Guard Headquarters media officer, released a statement.
He stated that the Bangladesh Coast Guard regularly conducts operations to ensure the safety of coastal and riverine areas and control smuggling and drugs. Following this, a special operation was conducted by the BCG Base Chittagong under the East Zone of the Bangladesh Coast Guard on Thursday, 6 February 2025, at 2 pm in the area adjacent to the Karnaphuli Tunnel based on secret information. During the operation, the Coast Guard patrol team became suspicious of the movement of two vehicles and signalled them to stop.
The two cars ignored the signal and tried to escape by speeding up. The Coast Guard patrol team chased the vehicles and arrested a Yaba smuggler named Md—Abshar Kamal (34) from one of the vehicles. The other vehicle's driver abandoned the car in front of a temple in the Potia Paikpara area and fled. Later, 24,000 yaba pills and 44,000 cash were seized from the two vehicles.
He added that the seized vehicles, yaba, cash and the arrested accused were handed over to Patenga Police Station for further legal action.
