Cop praised for saving puppy from drowning in Chattogram
Somebody had wrapped the puppy in a polythene bag and thrown it into the canal
Rajib Kumar Roy, a constable of the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP), has been highly praised for saving a puppy from drowning in the port city.
Several images of the CMP Special Armed Force member Rajib's efforts to save the puppy have already gone viral on Facebook.
Many people lauded Rajib on social media for saving the puppy from the Krishnakhal canal beside Chandgaon Kaptai Road on Thursday afternoon.

Sources said, the cops were on duty at a check-post in the Golaper Dokan area beside the Kaptai Road – one of the entry points into the city – to enforce the shutdown.
"I was on duty at the Kaptai Road intersection in the afternoon. I heard the whimpers of a dog coming from somewhere. After searching for a while, I saw that a mother dog was shouting beside the canal. Then I noticed the drowning puppy.
Somebody had wrapped the puppy in polythene and thrown it into the canal.
"When I saw that, I got into the water to save the puppy and brought it back to its mother," said Rajib.
He also said he was only thinking about saving a life, even though it was a dog's life.
"I was not thinking about getting accolades," said the animal lover.
More than a hundred people gathered around the canal and cheered Rajib by clapping for him when he brought the puppy to its mother. Some of them took images of the rescuer and shared it on Facebook.
Jikrul Habibi Wahid, a resident of the Bahaddarhat area, shared those images and wrote on his wall, "Let humanity spread everywhere. A puppy was drowning in the Krishnakhal canal… A policeman jumped into the water immediately to save the puppy, while he still had his shoes on, a pistol on his waist and a mobile phone in his pocket. Salute humanitarian police!"
Another social media user Sourav Paul said, "I am fascinated by the police's work during the shutdown. We want this sort of policing round the year."
Officer-in-charge of the Chandgaon police station Ataur Khandaker said, "People have already witnessed the police's sacrifice and humanity to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus. People's negative notions about the cops will change after this sort of work."
