The couple to face action if they failed to submit their wealth statements within 21 working days
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sought the wealth statement of arrested controversial gold trader Monir Hossain alias "Golden Monir" and his wife Raushan Akhter.
The couple has been asked to submit their statements within 21 working days, said Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya, public relations officer of the anti-corruption watchdog on Thursday.
The notice has also asked for information about all of their movable and immovable properties, liabilities, and sources of income and details of their acquisition in their own names and anonymity.
It also said that action would be taken against them under the ACC Act if they failed to submit the statements within the stipulated time or if they provided the commission with false information.
According to some reports, recently arrested Monir Hossain has deposited over Tk500 crore in different banks. His immovable assets amount to Tk64 crore, while his gold ornaments, cars, and other movable properties are valued at over Tk45 crore.
These properties have no legitimate source of funding. The ACC obtained specific information about these properties in an inquiry.
